Toolkit – January 24

“Toolkit 2009 for Transformation” will be held on January 24 on each District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Annual Conference.    The “Toolkit” mission is “To train leadership to begin transformation in the local church.”  Among the individual workshops offered are – How to Prepare for Charge Conference; How to Help Children Grow in Faith; Developing Effective Teachers; Connecting Vision and Ministry; Evangelism in the 2ist Century; How To Do Funding Ministries that Nurture Persons in Their Faith; Connecting Your Congregation and Your Annual Conference; How to Build Men’s Ministry; How to Become a Safe Environment (Safe Sanctuaries); The Small Group Ministries Process; Stewardship Ministry in the Congregation – Using God’s Resources Wisely; How to Manage Property, Equipment and Investments; Membership Counts – Introduction/Invitation (Women’s Ministries); Pathways to Vital Worship and How to Build Ministy By, With and For Youth. 

 

The site for our Northeast District is Quakertown UMC.  The program lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and each participant can choose two separate workshops.  We are also looking for drivers since Pastor Dave will be facilitating the Safe Sanctuaries training on the East District.

 

Community Counseling Services Expanding
Community Counseling Services, a program of Methodist Services for Children and Families, is just about completed with their office renovations and should receive its mental health licensing by the end of January.  Community Counseling has renovated the former nursery as well as hard-walling one of the Sunday School rooms.  They will use the Library as a reception area during office hours.

 

First UMC Choir CD – “We Sing the Almighty Power of God”
The Choir of First UMC will be producing a CD of favorite hymns as selected by the congregation over the last few months.  The cost of the CD is $12.00.  To order e-mail Pastor Dave at revdavegoss@enter.net or call the church office at (610) 258-0371.

 

Change of Flower Vendor
We have changed florists for 2009.  Prices are now $15 per vase (or $30 for two vases).  Contact Kim Price at the church office, (610) 258-0371, for available dates, or e-mail her at kimprice@enter.net. 

 

Soup Sale at Wesley UMC: Phillipsburg
Orders must be in by January 4 for pick-up on January 10.  Choices are Pepper Pot, Beef Barley, Italian Wedding, and Chicken Rice.  Cost is $5.00 per quart.  To order call Nancy Molnar at (908) 619-0561.

Mission and Ministry Opportunities

  • Benefits Ambassadors:  The Lehigh Valley Alliance on Aging and United Way of the Lehigh Valley sponso,r this faith-based program assists older adults find and apply for services they are eligible for.  Some training is required and computer access is required.  Pastor Dave has been appointed to the steering committee for the United Way’s “Older Adults Aging Successfully” program and can provide you with more information on becoming a Benefits Ambassador.

 

  • Mission Education and Participation:  We will be starting a small group that will meet one evening per month for mission education and will spend one morning, afternoon, or evening per month doing hands on mission work in the community.  If you would like to be considered for invitation, please see Pastor Dave for more details.

 

  • ProJeCt of Easton:  The food bank at ProJeCt of Easton is constantly in need of food-stuffs.  Donations can be placed under the coat-rack in the large Sunday School Room.

 

  • Parish Visitor:  We are looking for some folks who can donate an hour a week to visit those in nursing homes, hospitals and shut-ins.  A compassionate heart and 15 minutes with Pastor Dave is all that is needed to get underway. 

 

  • Ministry of Friends:  There’s always an opportunity to provide hands on mission work through Ministry of Friends.  Contact Helen LaRoche at (610) 258-2936 for details.

 

Fund Raising Opportunities

  • Bring your old cell phones to church for recycling
  • 6 ounce and 32 ounce yogurt containers
  • Use Al’s Cleaners and the church gets 10% of your cleaning bill (Let them know you are with First church)
  • Giant Gift Cards available from Lorraine Frantz or Margaret Heinrich – we receive 5% on the sale of the cards.
